On the other hand, U.S. Ambassador to Peru Krishna R. Urs received the Venezuelan official at the diplomatic facility in Lima.

The gathering took place as a part of "a joint effort to restore democracy and freedom in Venezuela."

"In the meeting with Carlos Scull, the diplomatic representative of Venezuela's Interim President, Ambassador Urs reiterated the United States' call in favor of free and fair elections that respect the will of the Venezuelan people," the North American official expressed.

As is known, the Venezuelan opposition leader assumed the powers of the presidency on January 23 after thousands of protesters marched against Nicolas Maduro's new term in office.
