UN supports Peru in fight against childhood anemia

00:00 | Lima, Jun. 12.

Development and Social Inclusion Minister Liliana La Rosa highlighted the United Nations World Food Programme's (WFP) support to tackle childhood anemia in Peru.

"It is a privilege for me to be part of the Government, and I'm so happy that we —the World Food Programme, the United Nations, and the entire Executive Branch— are fighting anemia," the cabinet member expressed.

Moreover, La Rosa stated children are the present and future of the Inca country.

"Thus, we are all united to take care of minors in a comprehensive manner," she added in this sense.

As is known, the Inca country intends to reduce the current childhood anemia rate from 43% to 19% by 2021.

Remarks were made Monday during a ceremony to launch the second season of a TV show called "Cocina con causa" (Cook with a purpose).

The aforementioned program is a multisectoral initiative promoting the consumption of nutritious foods on a daily basis.

This is possible thanks to the articulated efforts undertaken by Peruvian ministries, the private sector, international cooperation, civil society, as well as the WFP.

The ceremony was led by President Martin Vizcarra, who attended the event along with his wife Maribel Diaz.

The activity also saw the presence of Ministers Raul Perez-Reyes (Production), Silvia Pessah (Health), and Patricia Balbuena (Culture).
