UK Ambassador to Lima Kate Harrisson on Wednesday said that both the United Kingdom and Peru have expressed interest in joining the Gavi/Covax multilateral efforts so that there is an equitable distribution of the COVID-19 vaccine.

The diplomatic representative said it is essential that the vaccine is made available to the most vulnerable citizens.

Covax is a multilateral initiative that seeks to ensure access to the vaccine for a group of countries as soon as it becomes available.

In recent days, Foreign Affairs Minister Mario Lopez announced that —on August 31— Peru will complete an agreement to guarantee the immunization of 6.6 million Peruvians (20% of the population).
