Third wave in Peru: New capacity limits in Lima and provinces at high alert level

Starting Friday, January 7, Lima, Callao, and 23 provinces across the country will face new restrictions and capacity limits in a series of economic activities as they have moved to the high alert level due to the increase in COVID-19 cases, as stated in a rule published on Thursday in the Official Gazette El Peruano.

According to Supreme Decree No. 002-2022-PCM, in addition to Lima and Callao, the provinces that will move to the high alert level are Ica, Pisco, Cusco, Cajamarca, Jaén, Piura, Sullana, Sechura, Talara, Trujillo, Pacasmayo, Chiclayo, Santa, Puno, Huaura, Bagua, Chachapoyas, Tacna, Huancayo, Satipo, Mariscal Nieto, Ilo, and Tumbes.

The new restrictions in these 25 provinces, which will come into effect as of January 7, include a curfew from 11 p.m. to 4 a.m. and new capacity limits for businesses and commercial activities, which will be described below:

- Activities in closed spaces:

Malls, shopping arcades, department stores, shops in general, and conglomerates: 40%

Grocery stores, supermarkets, markets, bodegas, and pharmacies: 50%

Restaurants and related facilities: 50%

Casinos and slot machine halls: 40%

Movie theaters and locations for performing arts: 40%

Banks and other financial entities: 60%

Temples and religious sites: 40%

Libraries, museums, cultural centers, and art galleries: 50%

Activities at sports associations facilities and clubs (contact sports): 50%

Activities at sports associations facilities and clubs (non-contact sports): 50%

Business and professional events: 50%

Hairdressing salons and barbershops: 50%

Spas, Turkish baths, saunas, thermal baths: 40%

Coliseums: 0%

Gyms: 40%

- Activities in open spaces (observance of capacity limits and protocols required, subject to local governments' authorization within the framework of their powers):

Locations for performing arts

Locations for cultural education

Restaurants and related facilities in open-air places

Protected natural areas, botanical gardens, archaeological monuments or sites, open-air museums, and zoos

Open-air thermal baths

Open-air activities at sports associations facilities and clubs

Open-air business and professional events

Itinerant markets

Sports stadiums: 0%
