Peru: Alert level raised in Lima, Callao due to rise in COVID-19 infections

Lima and Callao became part of the provinces put on high alert given the increase in coronavirus cases registered in those jurisdictions over recent weeks, Health Minister Hernando Cevallos reported on Wednesday.

Curfew in provinces at high alert level runs from 11:00 p.m. to 4:00 a.m. the following day.

The starting date of new curfew schedule for the capital city and the port region will be made official via a decree to be published by the Presidency of the Council of Ministers.

The provinces of Ica and Pisco (Ica); Cusco (Cusco); Cajamarca and Jaen (Cajamarca); Piura, Sechura, Sullana and Talara (Piura); Trujillo and Pacasmayo (La Libertad); Chiclayo (Lambayeque); Santa (Ancash); Puno (Puno), Huaura (Lima region); Bagua and Chachapoyas (Amazonas); Tacna, Huancayo and Satipo (Junin); Mariscal Nieto and Ilo (Moquegua); as well as Tumbes have been included in the same level.

The government official indicated that these are the measures which have been approved so far, and that the Government constantly evaluates how the pandemic is evolving nationwide.

"And we will make known to citizens some complementary measures that can be determined in the coming days, in accordance with how the pandemic is evolving, the number of cases, etc.," he noted.

Remarks were made during a press conference held after a new session of the Council of Ministers on Wednesday afternoon.
