'The Odyssey' stars receive Peru's totora reed horses as unique gift

'The Odyssey'—the highly anticipated adaptation of Homer's epic—marks a cinematic milestone as the first feature film shot entirely with IMAX film cameras, underscoring director Christopher Nolan's technical and visual ambition.

The film adapts Homer's foundational epic into a modern, accessible, and emotionally engaging blockbuster, blending myth, action, family drama, and universal moral dilemmas.

It also brings together the "gods" of cinema, including Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong'o, Zendaya, Charlize Theron, Samantha Morton, and John Leguizamo, among others.

As part of the international promotional tour, journalist Maykoll Calderon traveled to Miami to interview Matt Damon and John Leguizamo, presenting each of them with a totora reed horse as a symbol of Peru's maritime identity.

The handcrafted piece represents the ancient Moche civilization, linked to Peru's northern coast and its enduring connection to the sea, passed down from generation to generation.

The gesture creates a symbolic bridge between two horses steeped in history: the Trojan Horse—the iconic symbol at the heart of the myth that sets Odysseus' journey in motion—and the totora reed horse—a Peruvian emblem of navigation, tradition, and cultural resilience.

The gesture prompted Matt Damon and John Leguizamo to speak in Spanish and invite audiences to watch 'The Odyssey' in theaters starting this Thursday, July 16.

The movie reinforces Nolan's legacy as a filmmaker of large-format cinema, pushing the technical boundaries of IMAX and championing films designed to be experienced in theaters.

Tickets are now on sale. Audiences can watch the film in its original language with subtitles or dubbed in Spanish.

It will also be available in premium formats, including XD, Xtreme, 4DX, IMAX, and 35 mm.

'The Odyssey' promises an epic, emotionally resonant, and technologically groundbreaking experience, transforming a classic myth into a contemporary cinematic event.
