The provinces under extreme, very high, and high alert levels are prioritized by the Territorial Aid Operation for Treatment and Isolation in Response to COVID-19 (Tayta Operation), which is implemented —in a targeted manner— to identify vulnerable people who got infected with the novel coronavirus and provide them with early treatment.

Tayta Operation has carried out 18 interventions and benefited more than 10,000 vulnerable people so far this year during this pandemic.

The interventions were successfully implemented in the districts of Nuevo Chimbote (Ancash region), Abancay (Apurimac region), Jaen (Cajamarca region), Amarilis (Huanuco region), Chincha Alta (Ica region), Jose Leonardo Ortiz (Lambayeque region), Trujillo (La Libertad region), Huaral (Lima region), Ilo (Moquegua region), Castilla (Piura region), as well as in Moquegua, Puno and Tacna regions.

Since its launch on June 1, 2020 until December of the same year, Tayta Operation has served 315,833 vulnerable people through 403 interventions at a national level.

How it works

The strategy adopted by Tayta Operation starts with the registration of vulnerable households containing elders and people with pre-existing diseases, such as diabetes, hypertension, heart problems, cancer, among others, which could aggravate their state of health in case of contracting COVID-19.

After that, the rapid response teams come in. They are made up of doctors, nurses, and health brigade members, who play a key role at Tayta Operation.

They are in charge of screening —to detect positive cases— clinical diagnosis, delivery of treatment drugs, and epidemiological follow-up.

Thus, timely treatment is provided to ensure recovery and to prevent those infected from getting worse or having to go to hospitals.

The Tayta strategy is intended to detect COVID-19 cases in a timely manner, especially among the most vulnerable groups. By doing so, it seeks to avoid health complications and overwhelming the local health care system.
