17:35 | Lima, Nov. 26.

Swiss State Secretary at the Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) Marie-Gabrielle Ineichen-Fleisch renewed Switzerland's commitment to supporting competitiveness and economic development in Peru.

This is part of the SECO Country Strategy Peru 2017-2020, which includes a non-reimbursable investment of about US$70 million.

Ineichen-Fleisch is on an official visit to Peru from 26 to 27 November and has held a series of high-level meetings with State ministers and authorities responsible for the country's economic policy.

The State Secretary met with Economy and Finance Minister Carlos Oliva. She signed a cooperation agreement with his Ministry and the Peruvian International Cooperation Agency regarding the second phase of the 'Be Competitive' Program.

To that end, about US$12 million will be invested until 2022.

Be Competitive

SeCompetitivo (Be Competitive) aims to help Peru improve its private sector's competitiveness, as well as support public and private sectors' efforts to increase productivity, facilitate foreign trade, and promote human capital development.

The program's national counterpart is the National Competitiveness and Formalization Council and its facilitator is HELVETAS Swiss Intercooperation.

Roundtable discussion

On the other hand, the Swiss State Secretary took part in the roundtable discussion "Promoting Competitiveness in Peru." She was joined by Foreign Trade and Tourism Minister Rogers Valencia and his Production counterpart Raul Perez-Reyes.

The event included a keynote speech on the importance of competitiveness and productivity for sustained growth, by Deputy Economy Minister Hugo Perea.
