Presidential plane set to evacuate Peruvians from Israel scheduled to land early Saturday

10:15 | Lima, Oct. 13.

Peru's presidential plane will land in Israel in the early hours of Saturday, October 14, to bring back compatriots who are in Tel Aviv, amid a military conflict.

"The plane will land early in the morning, at 1:15 a.m. on Saturday, and 52 Peruvian passengers will be evacuated, mostly stranded people who missed their flights, others considered vulnerable, and Peruvian-Israeli nationals," Peruvian Ambassador to Israel Manuel Cacho-Sousa reported.

Thus, there will be no stranded Peruvians in Israel due to the lack of flights, he said.

The diplomat noted that this flight will head to Rome, Italy, and will land at about 5 a.m. (local time) in said city, where it will be received by the President of the Republic Dina Boluarte, who is on a work trip in Europe.

"She is aware of the situation," said the ambassador, who stated that the Head of State keeps track of the incidents involving Peruvian nationals in the war zone.

Cacho-Sousa remarked that 52 Peruvians who missed their flights have been selected for this trip

The list includes compatriots who are in a vulnerable situation because they live near the Gaza Strip and Peruvian-Israeli nationals who were there at the time of the attack.

Moreover, the Peruvian envoy pointed out that 30 Peruvians were stranded and 32 reside in vulnerable areas, ten of whom live in the conflict zone, about 4 kilometers from the border.

Likewise, he remarked that there are more compatriots who remain in the area, who will be provided humanitarian aid until they can leave the place.

Previous flight

Cacho-Sousa explained that 140 people were stranded at first, but on Thursday, a group was transferred from Amman, Jordan, to Madrid, Spain, with flight expenses covered by the Peruvian government.

Those tourists had already booked a return flight to Lima, from Tel Aviv, with a stopover in the Spanish capital, where they will catch the flight to Peru.

On the other hand, the ambassador underscored that he is aware of the situation regarding the family of Peruvian Margit Schneider de Zimmerman, who was abducted by the Palestinian group Hamas, adding that the representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs cannot access the area where this family is located, because it is a war area.

Finally, he announced that the wake for Daniel Levi —a Peruvian doctor who died due to Hamas attacks— will be held on Saturday.
