The President of the Republic Martin Vizcarra on Monday signed the
, after having led the 129th session of the National Agreement Forum.
During his speech, the Head of State asserted that
Peru Pact will be the basis for analysis and debate with a view to the democratic transitions that the
general elections in 2021 imply.
In this regard, the top official said that it will be necessary for candidates running for the Presidency of the Republic and Parliament to express themselves on the compromise, so that citizens can cast an informed vote.
According to the statesman, the document will imply a consensus agreement of civil society, business guilds and labor unions, as well as political parties.
At the end of session 129 of the National Agreement Forum, Mr. Vizcarra reported that the ideas of members of this dialogue space were listened to and their contributions have been noted.
"Following the 45-day deadline, which will be characterized by hard work, we will have a basic document to look at the Peru of the (Independence) Bicentennial; we have urgent issues to solve, we do not evade them, and we are going to face them; it is our responsibility to face the current problems," he said.
As is known, such pact was launched by the Executive Branch by end-July. The initiative is intended to encourage dialogue beyond the COVID-19 crisis.
The document was signed by President Martin Vizcarra, Prime Minister Walter Martos, as well as leaders of the National Assembly of Regional Governments (ANGR), the Association of Municipalities of Peru, political parties, and civil society organizations.
The event was held at the Government Palace in Lima.
