President Vizcarra: Coronavirus cases total 2954 in Peru

President Martin Vizcarra on Tuesday afternoon confirmed that coronavirus (COVID-19) cases have increased to 2,954 in Peru —out of a total of 21,555 samples taken.

Thus, 18,601 citizens have tested negative.

Furthermore, the top official informed that 490 patients are hospitalized, of whom 109 are connected to mechanical ventilation at Intensive Care Units.

On the other hand, the statesman stressed the fact that 1,231 citizens have already been discharged, of whom 229 had been previously hospitalized.

Other 1,002 were discharged at their homes, where they must stay during the mandatory social isolation period.

He also affirmed that more than 10,000 rapid test have been carried out in Peru.


Initially set to last from March 16 to 30, the measure has been extended thru April 12.

On this occasion, the President was joined by members of the Council of Ministers. The event was held at the Government Palace in Lima.

Tuesday marks the twenty-third day of mandatory social isolation.
