President Vizcarra calls on Peruvians to combat disinformation

16:27 | Lima, May. 19.

The President of the Republic Martin Vizcarra on Tuesday asked Peruvians to combat false information that can misinform the population at this time when the country is facing the coronavirus (covid-19) pandemic.

This way, the Head of State denied the information spread over the weekend —via unofficial social media— about an alleged reshuffle of the Ministerial Cabinet.

"Fake news does not spread by itself, it is spread by people, so we have to put the same effort into combating disinformation as we do into fighting covid-19, because every time we address the nation, we must use this valuable time to clear up false information," he expressed.

In this sense, the top official expressed strong rejection towards the production and spread of disinformation.

"Last time, we had to clarify that the President was not ill or was being treated at a clinic, precisely for this disease. That was false," he added.

On this occasion, the President was joined by members of the Council of Ministers. The event was held at the Government Palace in Lima.

Tuesday marks the sixty-fifth day of mandatory social isolation.
