President: There is a disinformation pandemic in Peru

| Lima, Mar. 13.
The
President of the Republic Francisco Sagasti
affirmed that —in addition to COVID-19— Peru is also facing a
disinformation pandemic that currently undermines citizens' trust in the vaccine against coronavirus.
"The COVID-19 pandemic has wreaked havoc, but we have another pandemic that is wreaking more havoc; that is the disinformation pandemic," the president said in remarks to ATV Noticias.
For that reason, the Head of State deemed as important for citizens to stay alert, not to believe everything they hear, and always gather more information.
"What is behind the disinformation campaign? Behind that, there is a crisis of values, a terrible moral crisis," he warned.
In this sense, the top official encouraged the population to reflect on how to reverse this situation.
Furthermore, the statesman pointed out that Peru registers the
highest mistrust rate in Latin America, since only 9% of Peruvians trust others. Thus, he said, significant actions must be undertaken to reverse this situation.
“The illness and the disinformation surrounding the vaccines are killing us (…)," Mr. Sagasti expressed.
"Any action to undermine citizens' trust in the vaccine means truly making people die," he concluded.
