The President of the Republic of Peru, José Jeri, affirmed today that in this new year of 2026, the commitment and will to firmly confront crime are renewed, through joint efforts between law enforcement and the Executive Branch.

He made this announcement during his speech at the ceremony recognizing the Chief of the Joint Command of the Armed Forces (CCFFAA), César Briceño, an event held at Army Headquarters.

"This year, 2026, we renew our commitment and will to firmly confront crime, through comprehensive work between law enforcement and the Executive branch. We will be the bulwark against which crime will crash; and neither crime nor any threats of any kind will deter our will and our march toward a safer country," he stated.

He also indicated that over the years the concept of National Defense has expanded and now holds even greater significance.

"Security is not only defended at our borders, but also in our streets to protect the right of Peruvians to live in peace and without fear, a task in which the Armed Forces play a crucial role in support of our National Police," he noted.

In that regard, he specified that in this fight there is no room "for setbacks," because to common crime, organized crime, illegal mining, illegal logging, and all illicit activities that threaten our security, "we say enough is enough, we declare war on them once again today, and we will not back down."

At another point, President Jeri said that as president of Peru, his sacred duty is to defend the interests of the nation, given that the current international context sets a precedent for continued improvement and for being "cautious and vigilant."

Furthermore, he stated that the new head of the Joint Command of the Armed Forces (CCFFAA) assumes command "at a decisive moment," so that, together, the Government and the Armed Forces can guarantee that "Peru is a territory with a future, where order and justice prevail over chaos."

He also explained that it is necessary to strengthen military service, as it is essential that Peruvian youth, from now on, "become more committed to the Armed Forces."
