The President of the Republic Pedro Castillo on Tuesday highlighted the performance of the national soccer team and stressed the need to promote sports among young people, noting that the necessary budget will be allocated to do so.

The Head of State said that this work must be done hand-in-hand with regional and local authorities, in a bid to meet young people's needs.

"This Government is committed to getting the sport sector off the ground, which is important, and I urge this (Ministerial) Cabinet to embark on a quest to, once and for all, support sports development among children and young people at the national level," Mr. Castillo stated.

"We will allocate a budget to work on the framework underpinning sports," he added.

His remarks were delivered during the closing ceremony of the 15th Decentralized Council of Ministers in Yauyos.

Moreover, the President referred to the national soccer team's unsuccessful attempt to qualify for the Qatar 2022 World Cup, noting that you can win or lose while playing, but fighting is the way.

"Yesterday you realized that you may win or lose while playing, but fighting is the way (...) We can win, we can lose, we can draw, but we can't give up. Working together is what it is all about," the top dignitary affirmed.

In this regard, he reiterated that his Government's goal is to get the sport sector off the ground, and that authorities must work together to do so.
