The President of the Republic, Jose Maria Balcazar, stated on Thursday that decentralization must be deepened so that regional governments have larger budgets and can execute more investment projects.

While inaugurating the 10th Regional State Council (CER), the top official expressed his conviction about the importance of strengthening decentralization by improving its legislation and the work of regional governments.

"The path has been laid out. Decentralization must be deepened so that regional governments have larger budgets and can carry out their investment projects," Balcazar pointed out.

He stressed that there are several ways to continue advancing decentralization; for example, through legislation that avoids overlapping functions with local governments, a better distribution of mining canon nationwide, or the possibility of an agricultural canon.

Regarding the 10th CER, the President said it constitutes an opportunity to present proposals and adopt agreements in favor of all Peruvian regions' sustained development.

The CER is an operational body that coordinates the national government and regional governments for the development of policies and the implementation of joint actions across Peruvian territories.

Through the formulation of territorial agendas for decentralization and development, it promotes dialogue and coordination at both the technical and political levels.

It also advances the unblocking of priority investments, strengthens the delivery of public services, and fosters regulatory changes to address the needs and specific characteristics of each territory.
