The President of the Republic, Keiko Fujimori, arrived in Piura Wednesday morning, where she will oversee measures being implemented to address the El Niño phenomenon.
The Head of State arrived at the region's air base accompanied by Ministers Rafael Belaunde (Defense), Marco Vinelli (Agrarian Development and Irrigation), Mauricio Arnillas (Housing, Construction, and Sanitation), and deputies representing Piura.
Upon her arrival, the top official received the honors befitting her high office, as well as the customary protocol greeting from regional authorities.
As part of her agenda, President Fujimori will oversee the cleaning and dredging work on the Piura River as part of preparations to address the effects of El Niño.
The visit will take place in the Los Ejidos Dam–Bolognesi Bridge and Simbila–Grau Bridge areas in Catacaos.
At the latter site, she will inspect the work being carried out by engineering battalions, the Presidential Office reported.
In addition, the Head of State will lead the handover of 20 water pumps to seven provincial and district municipalities in the region to strengthen their capacity to respond to potential heavy rains and flooding, among other activities.
