Pope Leo XIV will bless the Lord of Miracles' image at St. Peter's Square in Rome on Sunday, October 19.
A canonization Mass will be celebrated at the site, followed by a procession including the participation of Peruvians from various cities around the world.
"This year's procession is organized on the occasion of the Jubilee of Hope 2025 and to coincide with the first months of the pontificate of Pope Leo XIV, who holds Peruvian nationality," the
Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported.
The Lord of Miracles procession will cover a three-kilometer distance and will be accompanied by over 700 devotees, including bearers, incense carriers, and singers. It will take place on October 18 and 19.
Peruvian faithful residing in Germany, Austria, Belgium, Chile, Spain, the United States, Italy, Peru, Sweden, and Switzerland are expected to attend both the Mass celebrated by the Holy Father and the procession.
This highly devout Catholic event was initiated in October 2024 during a meeting of the boards of the various Brotherhoods of Christ of Pachacamilla in Italy.
About Lord of Miracles
The Lord of Miracles constitutes Peru's most heavily attended religious festivity and is celebrated by all strata of society in homage to the Crucified Christ.
This image is a replica of a centuries-old mural of the crucifixion painted by a slave in the 17th century.
Thus, the Lord of Miracles became a motive for worship after the wall on which it was painted miraculously survived a destructive earthquake unscathed.
