Petroperu announces anti-corruption policy

14:17 | Lima, Jul. 30.

Petroperu Chairman Carlos Paredes on Tuesday announced the approval of a long-term framework cooperation agreement with Proetica — Transparency International's national chapter in Peru.

Petroperu is a company owned by the Peruvian State under private law, dedicated to the transportation, refining, distribution and sale of fuel and other products derived from oil.

For its part, Proetica —created in 2002— is the first Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) in the South American country exclusively working on the promotion of ethics and the fight against corruption.

The accord is aimed at strengthening and reinforcing the company's integrity and ethics system.

Thus, Petroperu will be able to receive technical assistance and information exchange in order to improve and make transparent hiring processes and anti-corruption surveillance systems.

Likewise, it will enable the creation of mechanisms that will mitigate corruption acts, which will strengthen internal control.

This way, Petroperu reaffirms its commitment to the Inca country and employees to fighting corruption and laying the foundations to become a great company at the service of the nation.

Furthermore, Paredes informed the enterprise is currently in the ISO 37001 certification process in order to fight bribes and promote an ethical culture.

Moreover, he stressed Management is undertaking actions with the purpose of correcting mistakes and bad practices of the past.

On the other hand, Petroperu —as part of its Good Corporate Governance policy— relies on an integrity committee, which works in accordance with an ethics code and has an integrity line to confidentially receive internal or external complaints against the company.

Remarks were made during the 50th anniversary ceremony of Petroperu.
