Peru has broken a Guinness Record for the world's biggest cajon performance, after 3,600 people played the Afro-Peruvian musical instrument at Lima's main square on Saturday.
This time 1,000 Lurigancho prisoners, 200 Chiclayo locals, as well as people in Venezuela and different cities of the United States joined professional and amateur musicians who played the percussion instrument simultaneously, making Santa Cruz dream come true.
The 8th International Festival of the Peruvian Cajon brought together Peruvian players and musicians from Mexico, Argentina, Chile, Brazil, France, Spain, Colombia and the United States.
La Cajoneada (a huge Cajon ensemble) was originally organized by the late Rafael Santa Cruz, but was now under the direction of his wife Julie Guillerot and his oldest son Jair Santa Cruz, with the support of the Ministry of Culture.
“This festival was like another child for Rafael. He was fully dedicated to it; that is why we decided to continue his legacy. His big dream was to gather 2,015 players this year and we exceeded such target,” Guillerot pointed out.
It is worth mentioning the minimum number of people required to set a new Guinness World Records title for the Largest Cajon Ensemble was 1,477 participants.
Figures will be sent to Guinness Records officials in the following days including attendance forms, videos and photos. Organizers will await for the official announcement.
