Peru's regional cuisine will be addressed at the 2nd World Forum on Food Tourism to be held in Lima next year, Foreign Trade and Tourism Minister Magali Silva affirmed.

According to the government official, the country will host the event thanks to its contribution to Peruvian gastronomy, which has consolidated as one of the most important culinary styles across the world, while boosting the national tourism sector.

"We have been chosen to host the 2nd World Forum on Food Tourism, organized by the [UN] World Tourism Organization, which will be held in Lima in 2016. Peruvian regional gastronomy is precisely one of the issues included in the agenda," Silva told Andina News Agency.

This important meeting will take place during the last week of April 2016, she added.

It will see the participation of world-renowned chefs, as well as Peruvian food exponents such as representatives of restaurants specialized in spicy dishes (Picanterias) and chicha bars (Chicherias). It must be noted Chicha is a traditional corn-fermented drink originated during pre-Columbian times.

El Nino Phenomenon

On the other hand, Silva addressed El Nino Phenomenon expected to hit the country.

Concerning its possible impact on the sector, the Peruvian Minister indicated that her portfolio conducts several multi-sector workshops addressed to the country's Northern area residents, so they take actions to protect visitors' integrity.

Destinations, not to be affected by rains, will be proposed as tourist destinations through Y tu que planes? platform, she added.
