Peruvian President Francisco Sagasti on Tuesday urged all citizens to participate actively in the June 6 presidential runoff election and to accept the results of said race.

Speaking from Puno region, where he paid a visit to deliver more than 100,000 COVID-19 vaccine doses, he noted that voting is a right and a duty, adding that everyone should accept the results at the polls.

"This is extremely important. The Transition and Emergency Government is doing its utmost to ensure that elections are held peacefully and calmly, and that results are respected," he expressed.

The Head of State said that this election will be tough, as citizens are polarized on their electoral preferences, but respect for democracy and institutions is essential.

"Rest assured that the Government has maintained, maintains, and will maintain strict neutrality in this process," he stated.

Noting that the future of children and grandchildren depends on everyone, the President confirmed that his administration will continue to work honestly, in coordination with the private sector, civil society, academia, religious groups, by opening the Government to everyone.

"Hopefully, this has generated what I offered: confidence and hope. Confidence that good and honest governance is possible and hope that we will have a better future. Nothing and no one will be able to stop the Peruvian people," Mr. Sagasti remarked.

In this sense, he reiterated his administration's commitment to work for the common good until the last minute of his term, which runs until July this year.
