In a high-risk operation reflecting their commitment to peace, members of the
successfully neutralized an explosive threat in the village of Ngotere, Central African Republic, where the lives of more than 60 children and residents were at risk.
The operation was carried out by the EOD (Explosive Ordnance Disposal) team.
This mission began after civilians reported the presence of a 40-millimeter RPG rocket found inside the latrine pit of a school located in the aforementioned village.
Following the alert, the team traveled from Bouar to the reported area, where it confirmed the imminent danger directly threatening the minors who attend classes there every day.
During the area's inspection and reconnaissance, the Peruvian specialists also found deteriorated remains of a rifle next to the explosive device, underscoring the high level of risk facing the community.
Following strict safety protocols, the EOD team proceeded to secure the area to preserve civilians' physical integrity.
As there was no suitable nearby area to carry out the controlled destruction of the explosive device, the Blue Helmets identified a clear space where they could conduct the operation.
The mission also received support and protection from the Bangladesh Infantry Battalion, whose troops provided security during the operation's deployment and execution.
Thanks to the coordination between both peacekeeping forces, the RPG rocket was successfully destroyed in a controlled manner.
With this action, the Peruvian Blue Helmets reaffirm their commitment to United Nations peacekeeping operations.
In addition to this work, they carry out road, bridge, and infrastructure repair and upkeep, as well as airfield maintenance, among other tasks.
