Peruvian Government approves resumption of economic activities in four phases

14:38 | Lima, May. 2.

The Government of Peru on Saturday approved a supreme decree that authorizes the resumption of economic activities in four phases starting this month, President Martin Vizcarra has announced.

"The supreme decree emerged from a technical study which proposed the reactivation of activities in four phases," he expressed.

In this sense, the Head of State specified that there will be an interval between each phase. "That means activities will resume in May, June, July, and August. The proposed timeframe allows adequate control in the development of activities," he indicated.

The top official stressed that the activities will begin as soon as the respective protocols are approved.

"Once the protocols are approved, the activities will restart. These protocols will make it possible to carry out a control so that the people involved (in those activities) do not become infected or infect others," he remarked.

The statesman emphasized that the restart will be gradual. "It will be slow, but the decision to start has already been made," he pointed out.

Initially set to last from March 16 to 30, the social isolation measure has been extended until May 10.

On this occasion, the President was joined by members of the Council of Ministers. The event was held at the Government Palace in Lima.

Saturday marks the forty-eighth day of mandatory social isolation.
