Peruvian Ambassador and family safe after intruder entered residence in U.S.

Peruvian Ambassador to the United States Oswaldo de Rivero, his family, the residential staff, and Secret Service agents are safe after an intruder entered the diplomat's residence in Washington, D.C., the Embassy of Peru in the United States reported on Wednesday.

In a statement on Twitter, the embassy reported that today, early in the morning, a person entered the Official Residence without authorization, causing material damage to the property. 

"Said person was shot by the Secret Service," the post reads.

"The Ambassador, his family, the residential staff, and the Secret Service agents are safe, and the fact is being investigated by the competent authorities," it added.
