10:10 | Arequipa (Arequipa region), Jul. 23.
The ash and gases emitted by the
Ubinas Volcano —located in Peru's southern Sanchez Cerro province, Moquegua region— since the early hours of Sunday have been blown by winds towards the west, heading to the province of Arequipa, in southern Peru.
The continuous ash emissions began at 07:10 a.m. and spread over a 40-km radius.
According to the IGP, the ash can cause environmental issues and affected the health of the people.
Therefore, locals are recommended to wear protective glasses and face masks to avoid damage to the respiratory system.
Likewise, the geophysical institute states that competent authorities and institutions should permanently monitor the impact of ash on water, soil, air, and people's health.
Last June, the Ubinas Volcano entered a new eruptive stage featuring successive explosions and ash emission, which prompted the declaration of an orange alert in the area.
