18:43 | Cardiff, Mar. 26.
Peruvian Gladys Tejeda displayed the best South American performance at the World Half Marathon Championships Cardiff 2016 as she took the ninth place and broke a South American record time of 1:10:14.
She was the first non-African athlete to participate in the female race in Welsh city.
This is the third time the Peruvian athlete participates in the World Half Marathon, but in previous occasions in Nanning (2010) and Copenhagen (2014), she took 21st (1:13:46) and 26th places (1:11:24), respectively.
Tejeda's great goal is to win the Rio 2016 Olympic Games' marathon, which would be her second Olympic participation after she captured the 43rd spot (2:32:07) at London 2012.
