Speaking to reporters upon his arrival at Parliament, he was asked about the Executive Branch's upcoming request for delegated legislative powers.
The chairman said the Senate would calmly wait for the Council of Ministers to finalize the request for delegated legislative powers so Congress can evaluate it as appropriate.
"We hope Congress can demonstrate unity at a time when Peru is facing major challenges from crime and the impact of El Niño phenomenon," Torres expressed.
In her July 28 address to the nation, President Keiko Fujimori announced that she will ask Parliament to grant the Executive Branch delegated legislative powers to address El Niño phenomenon and citizen insecurity.
During her speech, the Head of State said her administration will focus its initial efforts on addressing two national emergencies: mitigating the effects of El Niño phenomenon and strengthening citizen security, priorities that will mark the start of her term in office.

This event was organized by the National Evangelical Council of Peru (CONEP) and the Union of Evangelical Christian Churches of Peru (UNICEP), as part of the commemorative activities marking the 205th Anniversary of the country's Independence.
