Peru's Ruidiaz plays first MLS game for Seattle Sounders

15:00 | Seattle (U.S.), Jul. 23.

Raul Ruidiaz's first game for the Seattle Sounders Major League Soccer team has received good reviews from coach Brian Schmetzer, who assured the Peruvian is key to reaching the club's goals.

Brian Schmetzer believes Raul "The Flea" Ruidiaz will be an important element in the squad.

"Ruidiaz is a talented player. He is good on the ball," the U.S. coach commented.

The 27-year-old international striker played his first MLS game for Seattle Sounders in last Saturday's 2-0 victory over Vancouver Whitecaps —Yordy Reyna's team.

According to Schmetzer, the player has an outstanding skill to retain control of the ball and make passes.

"You guys saw his technical ability is very clean (...). He's goal-dangerous; some of his movements in the box, even though he didn't get the ball, are good. Overall, (I am) very pleased with the way his debut started," the Seattle Sounders coach stated.

The big leap

After leaving a goalscoring impression at Mexican club Monarcas Morelia, Raul Ruidiaz will play in the MLS —a league that is becoming more competitive and features world-class players already.

At Seattle Sounders —one of the most powerful soccer clubs in the U.S.— "The Flea" plays along with Clint Dempsey and Nicolas Lodeiro, both with extensive experience and talent.

Other Peruvians playing at the aforementioned league are: Alexi Gomez (Minnesota United FC), Alexander Callens (New York City FC), Yordy Reyna (Vancouver Whitecaps FC), and Yoshimar Yotun (Orlando City SC).
