Seattle Sounders FC of Major League Soccer (MLS) —an American professional soccer club based in Seattle, Washington— have shared an emotive video preparing the welcome of Peru international goalscorer Raul Ruidiaz into their team.
With the instrumental version of the Peruvian National Anthem in the background, the clip shows the number 9 template being printed on the back of the Inca forward's new jersey.
"Get Ready. El Nuevo 9 (The New 9)," the tweet reads.
According to press reports, the Sounders paid US$10 million for his transfer.
Additionally, the striker should receive a designated player contract, meaning he would be paid around US$400,000 a month, sources said.
Raul Ruidiaz has played for Mexican club Morelia Monarcas, where he is considered an idol and top goalscorer for two consecutive seasons.
"The arrival of Ruidiaz at our club made it clear how yellow legends are forged. Each of his goals fueled our winning spirit," the Monarcas wrote in a farewell statement after the transfer was confirmed.
The 27-year-old joined Peru's national team in two recent World Cup games. He played in the second half against
Denmark and
France.
Ruidiaz also played for Peruvian teams Universitario de Deportes and Melgar, as well as for Universidad de Chile and Coritiba (Brazil).
