The President of the Republic, Francisco Sagasti, urged the entire population to get vaccinated against COVID-19, as this is the only way to protect ourselves from the virus and to save more lives throughout the country.

"This is the best and safest shield against the disease. It is our duty to protect not only our lives but the lives of everyone around us," he said, noting that the immunization of people aged 50 and above will begin tomorrow, June 30.

The Head of State noted that, despite being vaccinated, people cannot lower their guard and neglect precautionary measures, since the world is witnessing different variants of the COVID-19 virus.

Additionally, on behalf of the Executive Branch and the people of Peru, he thanked President Joe Biden for the government-to-government donation of the first batch of 1,002,000 Pfizer vaccine doses, which demonstrates his administration's commitment to the region to join efforts in the fight against the pandemic.

He also thanked the donation of 160 ultra-cold freezers to transport the vaccines to different places.

Moreover, the President reported that the next batch of one million Pfizer vaccine doses will arrive on July 7 to complement the donation made by the U.S. government.

Mr. Sagasti also highlighted the joint efforts of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Health, as well as the coordination led by Prime Minister Violeta Bermudez and the country's Ambassador to Washington D.C. Hugo de Zela, which ensured the supply of vaccine doses to the nation.

Furthermore, he stressed the excellent state of relations between Peru and the United States and expressed the country's gratitude to the Pfizer laboratory.
