Peru's President to address the nation on Independence Day Anniversary

00:01 | Lima, Jul. 28.

President Martin Vizcarra will address the nation today on the occasion of the 199th Anniversary of Peru's Independence.

The event will take place at Congress headquarters this morning.

Within this framework, the top official's message to the nation is expected to address the measures against the COVID-19 pandemic and the main announcements for the coming year exercising power.

The Presidential Independence Day Speech is —without any doubt— the most important activity on the occasion.

As is known, Mr. Vizcarra took office on March 23, 2018, to replace resigning Pedro Pablo Kuczynski. His term in office will come to an end in July 2021.

Independence Day

Peru became independent from the Spanish rule on July 28, 1821.

Thus, this day serves to commemorate the nation's independence.

The independence process successfully came to an end with the Ayacucho Battle in December 1824.

Given the pandemic, the number of commemoration-related activities has been reduced this year.
