Peru's President reiterates commitment to preserving Creole music's legacy

The President of the Republic Dina Boluarte on Monday reaffirmed her commitment to the preservation and appreciation of Creole music, within the framework of a ceremony that recognized representatives of this musical genre.

"Creole music is a clear expression of our cultural identity, which is why my government has the great responsibility of preserving and valuing this musical legacy, while ensuring that its melodies remain valid and continue generation after generation," she stated.

In this regard, the dignitary pointed out that the Ministry of Culture has recognized nearly 70 outstanding figures and spaces of Creole culture as meritorious cultural figures.

Moreover, the musical works by important Creole composers such as Felipe Pinglo Alva, Eduardo Marquez Talledo, Manuel Raygada Ballesteros, Augusto Polo Campos, and Chabuca Granda have been declared Cultural Heritage of the Nation.

During the ceremony, the work of Victoria Santa Cruz, who made valuable contributions through teaching on Afro-Peruvian contributions to the culture of the country, was declared Cultural Heritage of the Nation.

"This afternoon, I am also honored to announce the declaration as Cultural Heritage of the Nation of the work of our outstanding Victoria Santa Cruz, a recognition that responds to her valuable contribution to the creation, teaching, and research on music, dance and theater, with which we build our idea of nation," she noted.

Finally, the Head of State recognized the representatives of Creole music

"This afternoon, we honor a valuable group of Peruvians, whose talents have enriched our lives and strengthened our identity, with the title of meritorious cultural figure," the President stated.
