Peru’s president Alan García received this morning the credential letters of the new ambassador of the Republic of South Africa to Peru, Albert Leslie Manley.

The act was held at 9:35 hours (14:35 GMT) in the Golden Hall at Government Palace and counted on the presence of Peru’s minister of Foreign Affairs, José Antonio García Belaunde.

During a brief dialogue with the diplomat, García said he was an admirer of the South African ex president and Nobel Peace Prize winner, Nelson Mandela.

Likewise, Peru’s president recalled that when worked in Zimbabwe, he had the opportunity to meet the South African cardinal, Desmond Tute.

Manley, 63 years old, has worked as vice consul of Maputo, Mozambique, political adviser in London, Permanent Representative of South Africa to the United Nations, and Permanent Representative of South Africa in Geneva.

The diplomatic relations between Peru and South Africa were established in 1974.
