Peruvian president Alan García Perez received this morning the credential letters of the new Spanish ambassador, Javier Sandomingo.

The event was held at 10:00 am (15:00 GMT) in the Golden Hall of the Government Palace and was also attended by Peru’s Foreign Minister, Jose Antonio Garcia Belaunde.

During José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero's administration, relations between Peru and Spain have maintained an excellent level.

Spain is the sixth largest trading partner of Peru and the first among the countries of the European Union.

In economic issues, according to figures given by the Private Investment Promotion Agency (ProInversion), Spain is the first foreign investor in Peru, with an accumulated amount of 4.6 billion dollars in the communications, finance and energy sectors, up to June 2007.
