The President of the Republic Francisco Sagasti on Thursday afternoon announced that he will set the national plan for original indigenous peoples.

Remarks were made during a meeting held with leaders of indigenous organizations in Peru's central jungle, as part of his working visit to Junin region.

"Politics —as you have requested several times— seek to guarantee the observance of the rights of almost 6 million brothers from original indigenous peoples," he stated.

Additionally, he said that his Government will keep all demands and requests made by communities on track, so that the next administration —due to take office in July— carries them on.

At the beginning of the meeting, the Head of State noted that his administration will listen to communities' points of view and will continue the collaboration process that is already in place with the Central Government.

During the event, he was joined by the Ministers of Interior, Education, Health, Agrarian Development and Irrigation, Culture, and that of Housing, Construction and Sanitation, as well as the Deputy Transport Minister.

"Many of the issues that cause them concern have to do with these ministries," the statesman said after expressing confidence that every concern will be addressed.

Mr. Sagasti emphasized that his term will come to an end soon, since Peruvians will elect —on June 6— their new president, who will take office on July 28.

"We have paid special attention to indigenous and native communities throughout this time, and the work done by the Ministry of Culture attests to this interest," he added.
