The President of the Republic Francisco Sagasti on Thursday morning arrived in the central Peruvian region of Junin, where he is paying a working visit to address social security and social action issues in this part of Peru's central jungle.

During his visit, joined by Interior Minister Jose Elice, the Head of State supervised a donation of explosives.

Earlier today, the President noted that this visit is intended to monitor actions to combat drugs and meet with leaders of indigenous organizations.

He said that the aim of such meeting is to identify indigenous organizations' needs and figure out how they can get a direct support from the Transition and Emergency Government.

Moreover, Mr. Sagasti highlighted the fact that Peru has signed a new contract with Pfizer for the acquisition of 12 million doses of the vaccine against COVID-19, which total 60 million doses to immunize Peruvians before the end of the year.

"No agreement had been reached by the time we took office. Now, we have secured 60 million doses," he noted.
