The President of the Republic Pedro Castillo on Friday announced that the Government will allocate S/100 million (about US$27 million) this 2022 for the execution of infrastructure works aimed at natural gas distribution.

Remarks were made from Ayacucho region, where Mr. Castillo closed the National Forum: Massive Use of Natural Gas and Changes in the Energy Matrix in Central and Southern Peru.

Within this framework, the Head of State explained that natural gas distribution networks will be strengthened thanks to the Energy Social Inclusion Fund (FISE) for which S/100 million (about US$27 million) will be allocated this year.

"All Peruvians wonder how it is possible that our brothers (and sisters) from Ayacucho, Cusco, and the south of the country do not benefit directly from Camisea (natural) gas; how is it possible that they continue waiting for years for the promise of access to this resource?," he asked.

Likewise, the top official reminded attendees that making the use of natural gas massive was one of his electoral campaign commitments.

"That is why today I have come to announce that this Government will develop natural gas distribution infrastructure works, starting with Ayacucho," he stressed.

President Castillo indicated that his administration will not only allocate a budget for the massive use of natural gas, but also for hosting the special edition of the Bolivarian Games in honor of the Bicentennial of the Battle of Ayacucho.

Moreover, the Head of State called on Congress to put on the agenda the bill sent by the Executive Branch which establishes the necessary tools for the implementation of the massive use of natural gas, as well as other initiatives aimed at improving living conditions.

"Our objectives seek to improve the living conditions of the population. Therefore, I call on Parliament so that they (its members) also prioritize issues such as the massive use of gas, access to basic services, and the Second Agrarian Reform," he noted.
