Peruvian President Martin Vizcarra on Sunday expressed his heartfelt condolences to the relatives of 13 people who died at a nightclub in Lima —where a party was being held despite a coronavirus ban— as they tried to escape a police raid on the venue.

"My deepest sympathy to the relatives of the 13 people who lost their lives in a nightclub that operated despite a strict ban (on social gatherings) during the state of emergency, thus violating all the health rules," he said.

Additionally, the Head of State asked the Public Ministry to conduct a rigorous investigation into the events as well as an exemplary punishment for those responsible.
