The President of the Republic Francisco Sagasti on Wednesday asked Congress to make a new agrarian promotion law soon, adding that Ministers of Economy-Finance, Agriculture, and Labor will support this work.

"We will support Congress, as far as possible, by providing all the information it needs and making every effort. Besides, I hope they will do so (make the law) in the next two days," he told Exitosa radio station.

The Head of State noted that Parliament is responsible for making laws and this function must be fulfilled "without shifting the responsibility to the Executive Branch."

"Aware of the responsibility of Congress and the Executive Branch, we told three ministers to engage in a continuous dialogue with the special commission that prepared the bill and opinion, providing information and data," he explained.

The Peruvian leader pointed out that Ministers of Economy-Finance, Agriculture, and Labor will attend Parliament today in order to support Congress' Economy Commission and continue the conversations, because that is the job of the Executive Branch.

Mr. Sagasti stated that a solution to the protest staged by agro-export sector workers is that, first of all, the law concerning the wages of workers should be passed as soon as possible, which is an issue that will surely not satisfy employers and workers.

In this sense, he asked workers and entrepreneurs to find a middle ground to make agro-exports of small and medium-sized enterprises possible, because there are thousands of jobs created in this sector, mainly for women, most of whom are heads of household.

The President noted that the agro-export sector includes large, medium, and small-sized companies, which are differentiated in terms of production and profitability, and these features must be considered in the new agrarian promotion law.
