The reports issued by national and international observers on the development of the general elections held last Sunday in Peru prove a clean, fair, and transparent electoral process, Prime Minister Violeta Bermudez highlighted on Thursday.

The high-ranking official stressed that the population witnessed how an electoral process developed in times of pandemic, adding that electoral bodies —in general— carried out their work responsibly.

Therefore, the Cabinet chief considered that unnecessary noise should not be generated about the elections.

"It seems to me that the National Office of Electoral Processes (ONPE) has developed all the necessary protocols, which have allowed the development of elections on Sunday to be a normal process, with a guarantee of security," she stressed.

The Prime Minister also mentioned that health protocols in the context of the pandemic must be respected by candidates running for the Presidency of the Republic, as well as by the general public.

In addition, the government's spokesperson indicated that —in due course— President Francisco Sagasti will offer a balance of his administration, in addition to leading an orderly transfer of power.

Although Bermudez did not provide any further details, she guaranteed that the current administration will hand over a more orderly Executive Branch compared to the one it received in November 2020 when the Transition and Emergency Government took office.
