defines new priorities that are reflected in strategic axes, whose objective is to combat the pandemic, stabilize the economy, and accelerate the recovery of employment and wages.
In this sense, the high-ranking official said the Government will make an effort to guarantee and improve living standards for the benefit of all Peruvians.
Health and sanitary emergency care
The Ministerial Cabinet head stressed that one of the priorities of the public budget for 2022 are health and attending to the emergency generated by COVID-19.
Therefore, he indicated, a 6% increase is proposed in the health sector compared to the previous fiscal year, reaching S/22.207 billion (about US$5.445 billion).
Education and safe return to classrooms
The Prime Minister noted that the budget for the education sector includes an increase of S/2.6 billion (about US$637 million) compared to the previous year, which seeks to provide equal opportunities, recover learning and enable a safe return to face-to-face classes.
"In total, S/35.758 billion (about US$8.767 billion) is projected for the education sector; that is almost a fifth of the total budget," he said.
Bellido also explained that an additional S/572 million (about US$140 million) has been foreseen for the increase of the monthly remuneration of teachers, as well as S/937 million (about US$230 million) to finance the continuity of more than 50,000 scholarship holders.
In the same way, he specified, S/7.406 billion (about US$1.816 billion) will be allocated to strengthen the infrastructure of educational institutions.
