The vaccination of Peruvian elders against COVID-19 will begin on March 8, Prime Minister Violeta Bermudez has confirmed.

In this sense, the high-ranking official said in remarks to RPP that 15,200 doses will be administered to this group throughout the coming week.

The Cabinet member explained that only senior citizens affiliated to the Social Health Insurance System's (EsSalud) Home Care Program (Padomi) will be vaccinated at home on Monday.

On March 9, the vaccine will be administered to elders who reside in shelters and care centers.

That same day, people belonging to this age group —who are able to move— will be immunized. The latter will be summoned to vaccination centers.

The Prime Minister went on to add that members of the National Police and Armed Forces will be immunized as well.

Furthermore, Bermudez reminded citizens that more vaccines from Pfizer pharmaceutical company will arrive on March 10.

As is known, President Francisco Sagasti announced that 117,000 COVID-19 vaccines —acquired through the COVAX Facility mechanism— will land in Peru on Wednesday.

The Head of State indicated that this cargo will be added to the 50,000 doses directly purchased from Pfizer pharmaceutical company, thus leading to 167,000 vaccines.

Moreover, the Prime Minister pointed out that polling station members have a priority on the vaccination schedule, but a date has not been set yet.
