Peru's Prime Minister Walter Martos on Tuesday affirmed that the pandemic caused by the novel coronavirus is experiencing a visible slowdown and, therefore, urged citizens to continue practicing social distancing, wearing face masks, and washing hands.
This morning, Martos supervised the second delivery of nearly 6,000 food baskets to approximately 3,000 families affected by the pandemic and those living in vulnerable situations.
"We have a responsibility to continue taking care of ourselves. We will move forward and help one another. Therefore, we are going to reach 200,000 vulnerable families. The district of Ventanilla (located in Lima) has received the first batch, and the second is scheduled for today. We are going to get out of this pandemic together," he said.
The government official remarked that the complementary food support is replicated in 20 districts across Lima and Callao, and is aimed at vulnerable families who do not have access to drinking water.
"So far, food baskets have been delivered to nearly 100,000 families, and an additional 100,000 families are to be reached. Around 400,000 baskets will be delivered in districts throughout Lima and Callao," he expressed.
The handover ceremony was attended by Ventanilla Mayor Pedro Spadaro, Head of the Joint Command of the Armed Forces Cesar Astudillo, and Head of the National Civil Defense Institute (Indeci) Luis Carranza.
