Peruvian Prime Minister Alberto Otarola and Foreign Affairs Minister Ana Cecilia Gervasi on Monday met the Third Vice-President of the Government of Spain, Teresa Ribera, as part of their working visit to said country.

Ribera is also Minister for Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge of Spain.

During the meeting, the authorities agreed on an agenda that prioritizes the environment and the care of the Amazon with a humane face.

"At the meeting, they pledged to promote bilateral actions to mitigate climate change, the sustainable use of biodiversity, as well as actions that help contribute to the comprehensive, social, and economic development of citizens," the Presidency of the Council of Ministers (PCM) said on Twitter.

Likewise, both delegations agreed on environmental matters and identified opportunities for cooperation within the framework of a just transition towards a low-carbon and climate-resilient economy, green hydrogen, and energy efficiency.

Moreover, the authorities noted that the protection of the Amazon and the implementation of cooperation mechanisms for the sustainable management of biodiversity and water resources to contribute to the comprehensive, social and economic development of citizens will be addressed in the next CELAC-EU summit.

Said summit brings together countries in Latin America and the Caribbean, as well as the European Union.

The event will take place on July 17 and 18 in Brussels, Belgium.
