Peru's Prime Minister Betssy Chavez on Monday affirmed that the 2023 Budget Bill seeks to ensure public services and opportunities for Peruvian citizens.
During her speech at a Congress plenary session, the Cabinet chief noted that the aim is to improve living standards by allocating public resources to policies for health, education, poverty alleviation, early care, access to potable water, and the reduced vulnerability of people when exposed to frost and cold spell.
"This will be carried out through a social revolution within the framework of stability and social sustainability," she remarked.
Chavez underscored that the resources that will be used to finance the 2023 budget expenditure amount to S/214.790 billion (about US$55.458 billion), which represents a growth of 9% compared to the forecast made in 2022.
"This increase is significant, as it is the largest one in the last 4 years. An assessment of available revenues, as well as the sustainability of public finances, has been made for the preparation of the 2023 budget," she mentioned.
The Executive Branch's budget bill considers a higher tax collection as a result of the recovery of economic activity, which also leads to a reduction in indebtedness compared to 2022.
Regular resources come mainly from tax collection, making up 66% of the total, up 19% compared to last year.
In addition, an increase of 41% in revenue from canon, over-canon and royalties is also considered.
Government Priorities
The Government will give priority to 9 sectors: education; health; transportation and communications; improvement of the quality of justice system services; poverty alleviation and social protection; citizen security; housing, construction and sanitation; strengthening of agricultural competitiveness; as well as employment and productivity.
