Peru's navy ship BAP Union moors in Dominican Republic

Peruvian Navy training ship BAP Union moored at San Souci Port in Santo Domingo city as part of a 3-day visit to promote peace, cooperation and friendship between Peru and the Dominican Republic.

The ship was received by Peruvian Ambassador to said country Augusto Freyre, joined by a delegation of Peruvian Embassy officials and Dominican authorities.

Dominican Republic's President Danilo Medina Sanchez attended a lunch in his honor aboard the vessel, confirming the importance of BAP Union's visit to strengthen bilateral relations between both nations.

Organized by the Peruvian Ambassador, the luncheon featured Dominican officials and ministers.

BAP Union

BAP Union is a training ship of the Peruvian Navy. It is a four-masted steel hulled full-rigged barque built in 2015 by State-run Navy Industrial Services (SIMA)

It is the largest vessel of its type in Latin America and the second in the world.

BAP Union’s main goal is to train Peruvian Navy cadets at sea while visiting ports of Peruvian Government's interest.  

Captained by Commander Franz Bittrich, the ship carries 250 people, including officials, cadets and other crew members.

It must be noted BAP Union begun its second training journey on May 11.

It previously moored in Balboa and Colon (Panama); Jacksonville, Norfolk and Boston (U.S.); Charlottetown (Canada); London (England); Hamburg (Germany); Amsterdam (the Netherlands); Le Havre (France); A Coruña, Cadiz and Santa Cruz de Tenerife (Spain); and Lisbon (Portugal).

The vessel will stay in Santo Domingo thru October 11.

Final stops include Colon, Balboa (Panama) and Guayaquil (Ecuador).
