Peruvian surfer Sofia Mulanovich was crowned women's gold medalist on Tuesday at 2019 ISA World Surfing Games held in Japan.

Mulanovich recorded the winning time of 13.80 to lead the women's competition at Miyazaki Beach.

Silvana Lima (BRA) came behind her taking silver. Bianca Buitendag (RSA) earned the bronze, and Carissa Moore (USA) the copper.

"This means everything to me. I am very happy and excited. Thanks to my family and friends, they are my motivation. It is amazing to be here and celebrate. That is what it is all about —celebrating and loving the sport," the popular surfer stated.

"I feel the magic. Everything I've accomplished in my life makes me feel emotional. I've achieved all this because everything aligned."

The competition was tough and the Peruvian had complications with the leash string attached to her board, which made her get off the water to get another surfboard nine minutes ahead of the final heat.

It must be noted Mulanovich repeats as ISA World Surfing Games champion 15 years after earning ISA gold.

She won her first ISA World Surfing Games gold medal at the 2004 edition in Ecuador.

With this win, Mulanovich enters an elite tier of surfers that have two ISA gold medals to their names.

Also, it gives her more chances to seek out one of the Tokyo 2020 qualification slots for the women.
