Peruvian surfer, and former World Champion, Sofia Mulanovich grabbed gold at Maui & Sons Pichilemu Women's Pro WS 1500 held at Punta Lobos beach on October 27-30.

Mulanovich became successful at the penultimate stage of the Qualifying Series.

After getting 6.87 and 8.67, the national athlete's performance totaled 15.54 points against Costa Rican counterpart Leilani McGonagle (12.83).

"I'm happy to compete in Chile one more time. I like its waves a lot, and I was willing to win this tournament. I'm very happy for that," she said after the victory.

It must be noted the 33-year-old was the first Peruvian Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) athlete to become World Champion back in 2004.
