is on its way to receiving a new international recognition. This time, the ancient citadel competes to be the Leading Tourist Attraction in South America at the 2020 World Travel Awards.
The Inca sanctuary —which is located in Cusco region— leads the more than 20 nominations that Peru has obtained for the
27th edition of the World Travel Awards, whose voting deadline is set for September 24.
During this stage, people will have the opportunity to vote in the categories that recognize our tourism excellence.
Machu Picchu —winner of the 2018 and 2019 editions— competes with Angel Falls (Venezuela), Atacama Desert (Chile), Christ the Redeemer (Brazil), Iguazu Falls (Argentina), La Compania de Jesus (Ecuador), Las Lajas Sanctuary (Colombia), Parque Nacional Natural Tayrona (Colombia), Perito Moreno Glacier (Argentina), Salar de Uyuni (Bolivia) and Torres del Paine National Park (Chile).
Machu Picchu is one of the human constructions that arouses great interest in the world. Its imposing and enigmatic architecture —built entirely in stone on a steep mountain— as well as the comforting energy that is perceived when touring the Inca citadel are the main aspects that captivate visitors and motivate them to
visit one of the New Seven Wonders of the World.
Other categories
For the 27th edition of the World Travel Awards, Peru competes to be the Leading Natural Tourist Attraction in South America with its candidate: Arequipa region-based
Colca Canyon, as well as Leading Beach Destination with Mancora in Piura region.
It also participates in the following categories: Leading Airport, Adventure Tourism Destination, Business Travel Destination, City Break Destination, City Destination, Cruise Destination, Culinary Destination, and Cultural City Destination, among others.
